A Beginners Guide To Working With Brands And PRsMonday, February 22, 2016
There are so many questions when it comes to working with brands-how, when, etc. but don't you worry I'm here to help. I'm gonna take you through the first steps of working with brands and PRs and share EVERYTHING I know with you! This is a beginners guide to working with brands where I'll share all my tips. Take a cuppa cause this is gonna be long!
If you want a brand to contact you, you have to put some contact information on your blog, right?! Make an email for your blog where brands can contact you and make sure to put it on visible places, on your sidebar and in contact/work with me page. I think you should also include where you're located, at least your country.
Contact page is a great way to introduce your blog to brands and write what type of collaborations you offer, You can check out mine here. Another thing I'd suggest is making a media kit which you can send to brands. If you don't know what a media kit is, it's a document which includes all basic info about your blog, including your stats and social links.
What I mean by be you is to be yourself and write how you want, what you want and be YOU. Be different, be unique, be whatever YOU are. Brands will want to work with you because of YOU, because of your writing style, your photography skills, I think you got the point! Followers do matter, a lot but they are not the only things brands and PRs are looking for. They numbers are just one part of a reason why a brand wants to work with you. Don't lose your voice, don't lose you in the numbers game because the brands will recognise your voice and they will want to work with you.
Don't be afraid to reach out to brands and PRs
They are people too and they have to do lots of things, look at lots of blogs so why not help them and introduce your blog to them? What's the worst thing that could happen, they could say no or not respond at all? That doesn't sound that bad, I think you'll survive. But make sure how you contact the brand, be personal, say why you love the brand and why you should work with them. And that leads me to the next point
Research a brand
Whether you're contacting a brand yourself or if a brand contacted you, do your research and find out more about the company/brand. If you're emailing a company, try finding a name of the person you're emailing. Email a company you actually want to work with, don't email someone just so you can get "freebies" ( and FYI they are not freebies!)
Respond to emails
I was pretty bad at responding to my emails until a couple of months ago when I told myself that I have to respond to email soon after I receive them. I used to respond to my emails once a week or I'd forget to respond to some (I am truly sorry about that) and that didn't work, at all. And that's a lesson for you all, respond to emails as soon as you get them or you will forget. Respond to all emails, whether you're interested in collaboration or not. If someone wants to work with YOU, the least you could do is to respond to an email. Simple no, thank you sound so much better than not responding.
Don't accept everything you've been offered
When working with brands, you have to ask yourself would I buy this myself, if the product wasn't offered to me? If the answer is no, you should pass on that collaboration. It's worth waiting on something you're genuinely interested in. there will always be new, better opportunities that are worth waiting.
Ah, good old social media. Is there something you can't find on social media? Social media is a great way to interact with brands and knowing of new opportunities for bloggers.
I mentioned a lot of things here, let's hope I didn't forget something too important haha. I didn't go in any particular order, what came to my mind ended up in this post. If you would like to add something, please leave a comment. And click here if you want to read more of my tips posts!
